Is Mexican President Calderon being hypocritical?
It is only 17 pages including the title page. Read the damn bill, I have. I admit it is a tough read with all the legal double speak and cross references to other bills but I have read it, twice to try to understand it. It does not support racial profiling, nor does it even allude to it but President Calderon and Mexico support racial profiling by his own admission. He condemns Arizona for taking a stand against "unauthorized aliens" who are draining the Arizona economy, yet he clearly stated that Mexico views illegal immigration as unlawful and strongly enforces their laws.
On the talk shows where Calderon appeared the other day, he stated that Mexico has tough immigration laws and a first offense usually results in two years in prison. He said it is against the law to illegally enter Mexico and that Mexico uses racial profiling to stop illegal immigrants from entering Mexico, and that immigrants must have "papers" with them at all times to validate their status or be subject to imprisonment. And Mexican jails are no picnic.
I support the Arizona Law and applaud Governor Brewer for signing it but I think they didn't go far enough and should include whatever means possible as a way to identify and control illegal immigration because the Federal Government has failed in its job to protect our borders.
The answer to the question is a resounding, "YES, he is being hypocritical!" but that is SOP for most politicians.
That is my stand, what's yours?

Dear Brian
I agree with you regarding Calderon and do respect Rep McClintock for his comments. I attended a meeting at Wayne State at which time House Bill 6256 was discussed. Only thing I would like to comment on is the fear the opponents of the bill try to instill in the people. Ethriam Brammer, Wayne State Professor stated that he and his family were taking a ride and he asked his wife to bring their passports along she thought they were going into Mexico (where their pp were required) he said no then proceeded to say that they were indeed stopped and asked for their pp. My surprise was that they thought is was ok to need a pp in Mexico but not here. Then he went on to say that if this bill passed babies would be ripped from their mother's arms and seniors would be put in jail (all the time shouting like he was in a bar brawl). Currently house bill 6256 mimics what is currently a federal law so I guess I am confused - What will change? Maybe you can shed some light on what the big deal is. I feel that the states sponsoring immigration law enforcement just brings it down to the state level and I feel will be enforced as it should be. I would also like to add that I am 75 and during my lifetime have never heard of a police officer pulling babies out of a mother's arms unless there was a danger to the baby (how about you have you heard of any such incident?).
No, I have never heard of a police officer pulling babies from a mother's arms and I don't think it will happen, even after the law goes into effect.
Arizona just passed a law to enforce the Federal law that the Federal Government refuses to enforce for whatever reason.
As to your question about what will change. NOTHING!
ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!
These are just a bunch of politicians tring to level the playing field and puffing their chests like Tarzan.
Thanks for your comments.
