Obama Family Vacations
I don't know why everyone is so upset with Michele Obama going to Italy and bringing many of her friends with her. She doesn't have another vacation scheduled for another week. You would think that the American people were paying the in-excess of $250,000 (for security) out of their own pockets. To these people, I say, "RELAX".
OK, when you add in Air Force II, advance security teams, chase planes, ground transportation and local support costs, the actual cost may be between $1 and $2,000,000.00
So RELAX, it is not your money, it is only tax dollars! And nobody in Washington seems to care about tax dollars being spent, just tax dollars being collected.
That is my stand! Sad isn't it?

Let's say it did cost $2 million.
Google tells me there are roughly 307 million people living in the United States.
Using that math, it cost each person AT MOST .006 cents.
But I guess that would require the use of your brain.
$2 million here, $2 million there, pretty soon you are talking real money. Oh, I forgot, it is only tax dollars, not real money in Washington.

First, there isn't $2 million here, $2 million there.
This is one situation and the numbers you're using are speculation, not fact.
Second, Mrs. Obama vacationed with two women, one of them a longtime Chicago pal, Anita Blanchard, who is the obstetrician who delivered Sasha and Malia.
A White House source told reporters that Blanchard's father passed away and Mrs. Obama was not able to make the funeral at the beginning of July. Blanchard had promised her daughter she would take her to Spain for her birthday. She asked Mrs. Obama and Sasha to come with.
The trip involved six White House advance staffers and two East Wing staffers, deputy Chief of Staff Melissa Winter and Mrs. Obama's personal assistant, Kristen Jarvis, according to Mrs. Obama's spokeswoman Catherine McCormick Lelyveld.
Mrs. Obama does travel with significant security -- and in a trip like this, three shifts of uniformed and plain-clothes agents and military personnel flew with her on a big Air Force 757. No matter where she goes -- domestic or international -- any first lady gets protection and she does not decide how many agents are needed. This is no different then any other First Lady.
It was the Secret Service that booked the Obama group's rooms at the luxury Hotel Villa Padierna, in part because agents could guard the perimeter of the property much better than they could at rival facilities.
According to the White House, all travelers paid for their hotel rooms and other personal and travel expenses.

Wow! You quoted Lynn Sweet, a columnist and the Washington Bureau Chief for the Chicago Sun-Times. Can you imagine a Chicago paper ever saying anything against the Obamas and living to talk about it?
It may take a while for the truth to come out but I will bet the cost will be astronomical.
If she was "on a private trip..." as the White House Press Secretary stated, why did she visit the King of Spain at his summer palace in Majorca. Tack on another $50 Grand for that one. She probably wanted to make it look like it was an Official Visit and have the taxpayers pay for it. Follow the money!
August. If this was 2008 Bush II would be lounging the entire month at the ranch. On my dime. Wait, it's only tax dollars...or is it only tax dollars when a Democrat does it?
Oh please, apples and oranges don't compare. A weekend in Nantucket, a week in Spain with a side trip to Majorca, and a weekend at the Gulf next week can't compare to a trip to the Bush ranch in Texas, even if it is for a month. I don't begrudge President Obama a vacation. His job is pressure filled and he needs a vacation, just not one week a month at high cost resorts. He is asking Americans to tighten their belts but he is throwing money away as if it were peanuts.
Bush didn't even play golf after 911 because he had and has respect for the troops!
